Two registries, two version numbers. The 34 bounded records follow the FieldState v2 measurement specification and attach to named nodes of the BERM v17 causal graph; each states its field class, directness, translation scope and calibration role. The 150 extended catalogue entries are the earlier A–F pathway bibliography, kept for source-level review and carried over to the same graph nodes where the source permits. "v2" is the version of the measurement specification; "v17" is the version of the model whose country predictions are published.

Why directional attenuation requires a second model

Several identified design and interpretation mechanisms can move an estimated EMF effect toward zero: exposure misclassification, contaminated baselines, mediator adjustment, mismatched windows and publication or model-selection rules. Their joint direction does not by itself prove a cognitive cause. It does create a separate explanatory target. BERM composes limited access to causal antecedents, motivated reasoning and omitted-variable structure into a testable account of why downstream narratives can be preferred to an unmeasured biological state. The account predicts two discriminating results: evidence thresholds should change when identical results receive different causal framings, and measured biological state should add out-of-sample information beyond reported reasons and socioeconomic controls. Intracellular Ca²⁺ Store Mechanism (Bertagna 2025)

Bertagna et al. 2025 exposed mouse CA1 neurons to 50 Hz, 1 mT for 60 minutes and reported reduced inward and transient outward currents. Interfering with RyR release or SERCA reuptake removed those effects. This localizes a coupled calcium-store mechanism in the stated ELF setting. It motivates separate measurements of initial calcium, ER-store state and subsequent membrane current rather than two independent pathway weights.

5G Testicular ROS & CoQ10 Rescue (Bektas 2026)

Melatonin Suppression: PRISMA Systematic Review (Tbahriti 2026)

Tbahriti et al. 2026 (Sleep Biol Rhythms 24(2):195-214) — PRISMA 2020: 55 studies from 892 screened. 88% of high-quality animal studies report EMF-induced melatonin suppression (20–50% from baseline). Suppression smaller than light-induced (>90%), consistent with EMF as one component of nocturnal disruption. Limitation: only 27% of studies met high methodological standards.

Tissue-Specific Null Results

Meyer et al. 2026 (ELF 50 Hz, 200 µT, HaCaT keratinocytes — no DNA damage, p=0.644/0.987) and Haidar et al. 2025 (5G-modulated 3.5 GHz, SAR 0.08–4 W/kg, fibroblasts/keratinocytes — no ROS, no DNA damage). These null results motivate an imported L3 tissue-response candidate χ_tissue; they do not by themselves establish gonadal primacy, validate χ_geo, or identify the open L0→L2 mapping.

BBB Disruption via Tight Junction Degradation (Gao 2024)

These findings establish a hormetic framework: low-dose stress activates repair systems, while high-dose stress overwhelms them.

Ionizing-radiation adaptation anchors repair biology in its own dose class. RF preconditioning with an autophagy intervention supplies a closer field-specific comparison; the two exposures do not share an assumed dose scale.

Eisenberg et al. (2008) studied DRD4/7R polymorphism in Ariaal pastoralists of northern Kenya (n=152). The observed genotype–environment association motivates a context-dependent functional model. Settlement and BMI do not measure a local electromagnetic dose or a genotype-specific field coefficient.

Separate hormone amount from pulse timing and tissue receptivity. A prospective urban comparison should measure local fields, sleep, social stressors and the received endocrine response before assigning an environmental mechanism.

BERM represents beneficial adaptation, impaired reception and injury as distinguishable state trajectories. The sign is tested with baseline function, repair and a defined challenge; “hormesis” does not select the explanation after the outcome is known.

The Saturation Anomaly: fertility after diffusion is finished

A purely behavioural account of the fertility decline carries a testable ceiling. If the mechanism is that smartphones displaced the time in which conception happens, then once nearly everyone has one the displacement is complete, and the decline should level off. Diffusion is a bounded process; the effect it drives cannot outrun it. This is the sharpest available discriminator between an account that runs entirely through adoption and one that carries a component still accumulating after adoption stops.

Saturation is dated per country as the first year the model's smartphone penetration reaches 95% of its own 2024 ceiling — diffusion essentially complete relative to where that country ended up. Fifteen countries saturated at least five years before 2024. The response is the total fertility rate in the saturation year against 2024.

Eleven of the fifteen saturated countries are shown; the four omitted (Norway, Israel, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates) all fall between −7.3% and −5.4%. Fourteen of fifteen declined, median −7.5%. Fertility rates are World Population Prospects values from the model's own annual panel.

The decline did not level off. Fourteen of the fifteen countries kept falling for five to six years after diffusion was effectively over, and South Korea — the earliest to saturate — fell fastest of all, more than a fifth in six years. The single exception is Singapore, which was already at 0.95 when it saturated and has held there since: a floor, not a recovery.

The dual-kernel framework reads this as the slow arm continuing after the fast one has run out of room. Cumulative exposure keeps rising once adoption stops, because usage intensity, simultaneous band count and night-time proximity all keep growing after the device count no longer can. The reading is consistent with the pattern but does not establish it: a behavioural account with a stock adjustment — intensity rising after ownership saturates, or cohorts entering with a lifetime of exposure behind them — predicts a post-saturation decline as well, and this test does not separate the two.

Mechanistic reading plus population-level association. The pattern is measured across fifteen countries; alternative explanations are not excluded.

The Fertility Gap as a measurement of the slow arm

There is a second discriminator, cleaner in principle than the saturation test. Displacement and capacity make opposite predictions about what people say they want. If the mechanism is that time and partnering were displaced, intended family size should fall alongside realised fertility — people who are not partnering do not plan the children they are not having. If the mechanism is that reproductive capacity declined, intention should hold while realisation falls, and the gap between them should widen with cumulative exposure.

The gap is therefore the framework's most direct proposed handle on the slow kernel: a quantity that separates wanting from achieving, measured on the same populations that carry the exposure history. Its growth rate rather than its level is the estimand, because the level is confounded by everything that has always separated stated ideals from outcomes.

The model does not yet hold this series. Realised fertility comes from the annual panel already in the repository; intended and ideal family size do not, and would have to be assembled from Eurobarometer, the World Values Survey and the Demographic and Health Surveys, which use different instruments and different age ranges. Until that series exists the fertility gap is a specified test with no result, and nothing here should be read as reporting one.

Mechanistic intermediate. The reasoning is specified; the measurement has not been made.

Statistical status and validation boundary

BERM v17 separates a descriptive timing pattern, a biological endpoint and a population effect. The validation status states what is required to test the active route.

DESCRIPTIVE COHORT SIGNAL

ASFR cohort-route readiness

V2 does not publish age-specific country forecasts until measured FieldState, an organ-specific biological endpoint, couple state and ASFR can be joined on the same cohort-time axis.

Descriptive finding: WPP 2024 ASFR + World Bank/ITU mobile subscriptions, 2000–2023, N = 163, Pearson r = −0.66645 between a young-minus-older cohort timing proxy and ASFR change.

The result is not FieldState, exposure dose, a biological effect estimate or a TFR coefficient. Region, income and demographic structure remain material alternative explanations.

Next analysis: a preregistered matched panel collecting FieldState and biomarkers before evaluating the ASFR endpoint.

What v2 validation requires
